If anyone -has- taken apart the newer GB and SNES models, it would be nice to be able to see what's inside them. That's going to make modding your new SNES Classic controllers to be wireless rather hard, unless 8bitdo puts out a version of the PCB that is specifically designed to fit the SNES Classic shell.Īt least though, with 8bitdo's own controllers, they tend to follow the original parts pretty closely, so if I get one of their newer gamepads, like that SN30 GB edition (or the SNES model) I'd expect I would be able to swap the buttons with no need to grind them down to force it to fit. If the SNES Classic case won't fit in the SFC PCB (which is based 100% around the original Snes gamepad design) then I doubt that the 8bitdo Snes DIY will fit in anything else but the old SNES gamepad or the Club Nintendo Wii SFC gamepad. The back shell is different and so is the front shell.

I don't think the DIY PCBs will fit (someone is welcome to prove me wrong), because when I tried to put the SFC PCB into the Classic, it wouldn't fit, the pegs didn't line up in spots, plus the inside design is changed anyway.įor anyone who wondered what a US snes pad would look like with JP/EU buttons. ALSO! That gets me thinking, since the cases are different for the SNES Classic and the Club Nintendo Wii SFC, ummm. I guess I could have just desoldered the little chip the cable connects to but I was too lazy to do that.
I put the RGBY buttons back in the SFC case and they don't do that (tilting). The way the case is designed, the RGBY buttons tilt around and become slanted. In order to even get the RGBY buttons to fit, I had to grind down the legs, and even then it still didn't work right so I just went back to the Lavender and Purple buttons. The Button pits are different and the legs are shorter. If you want to take the SNES love even further, there is still some stock of the SNES Classic Mini console floating around, albeit at elevated prices these days. It's not the 8bitdo controller, but still shows you what I mean when I say use paper donuts / hole reinforcers.Īlso, holy crap, there are some differences between the old Club Nintendo Wii Superfamicom controller and the US SNES Classic Controller, the shell / case and the buttons are different, so my plan to swap the buttons from an old Club Nintendo Wii SFC gamepad and the newer long-corded SNES Classic gamepad did not work quite as I would have hoped.
